We introduce ourselves

The German-Turkish Society wants to provide German decision-makers in particular with a deeper understanding of the rich and fascinating Turkish culture, the country's political situation and the great potential for economic relations. The friendly relationship between Germany and Turkey that has existed for decades should be consolidated and further developed.

For us, international understanding based on mutual interest and respect is the best basis for peaceful coexistence in Germany. The German-Turkish Society therefore supports the many Turkish associations and organizations that want to combine the cultivation of their own culture with the integration into German society that is desirable for both sides. The large number and diversity of German-Turkish clubs and societies in many regions and federal states shows how much the great solidarity between our countries has long been reflected in social coexistence. The German-Turkish Society eV, based in Berlin, in no way wants to replace these important initiatives, but rather to supplement their valuable work through trusting cooperation with a previously non-existent nationwide presence and impact. In addition to personal memberships, we also welcome memberships from clubs and societies.

The German-Turkish Society eV will initiate lectures, seminars, symposiums and cultural events in accordance with its corporate purpose. It will establish and breathe life into institutional collaborations and also pursue its goals through publications and active communication work. One focus will be the regular organization of a large nationwide conference, to which the numerous German-Turkish initiatives in Germany will also be invited. This is intended to serve the exchange among each other and to ensure the greatest possible public interest for our common cause.

The society will also establish an annual prize for special contributions to German-Turkish relations. This award will be called the Tarabya Prize and will therefore refer to the former summer residence of the imperial ambassadors of Germany to the Ottoman Empire, located in Istanbul directly on the Bosphorus. This charming ensemble of wooden houses in the old Bosphorus summer house style has now come back to life. The large park area is not only home to a military cemetery from the First World War, but is also home to an artists' academy that was set up by members of the German Bundestag with the support of the Foreign Ministry. In the future, artists from Germany will live and work here for a longer period of time and will take and convey their impressions of the fascinating metropolis on the Bosphorus with them to Germany. The German-Turkish Chamber of Commerce is also located in Tarabya as an important contact point for German and Turkish companies. This interplay of culture and business makes the traditional town on the banks of the Bosphorus the ideal namesake for a new and renowned award.

The German-Turkish Society wants to start and achieve many things. In order to achieve our ambitious goals, we rely on the knowledge, ideas and commitment of our members and partners. Everyone who feels committed to German-Turkish understanding and to strengthening political, economic and cultural relations between our countries and people is warmly invited to participate.

Our goal

The aim and purpose of the society is to promote the idea of international understanding and to improve relations between Germany and Turkey. This is to be achieved by promoting interest in knowledge about Turkey and deepening German-Turkish relations on a personal level in such a way that cultural and social ties are strengthened and integration is promoted.

In addition, the dialogue between other associations and organizations that pursue comparable charitable goals should be supported and promoted. The society is non-partisan. As far as religious and party-political topics are dealt with, it refrains from any religious and party-political activities or assessments. No one is disadvantaged or favored because of their religion, origin, race or gender.
